Woodlief on combatting unelected bureaucratic overreach

“Congress can send a clear message: The Justice Department works for the people—not the other way around.”
In the Wall Street Journal, Tony Woodlief has written a piece explaining how former President Biden’s administration inadvertently gives an opening for Congress to curb the federal abuse of power that has increasingly become the norm.
The DOJ, with the intention of steeling their agenda, made permanent a rule allowing agencies to use “guidance” to impose de facto regulations, exposing it to reversal under the Congressional Review Act. If Congress acts quickly, it can not only strike down this rule but also prevent future administrations from reinstating similar abuses. It would be wise for our federal lawmakers to seize this opportunity to restore accountability and ensure federal agencies serve the people—not the other way around.
A great read and reminder of why we need Congress to practice and follow through with their oversight power of these federal agencies which have been sidestepping the American people and the principles of democracy for far too long.
