National politics shouldn’t be our primary community
Former Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse has provided some moving interviews and conversations since his terminal cancer diagnosis. Much of what he has said invites us to think more deeply about life and death, faith and citizenship, and the proper role of government.
His recent 60 Minutes interview was deeply personal, but one moment in particular stayed with me: his reminder that national politics should not be the main source of our belonging. Citizenship starts closer to home, in families, neighborhoods, churches, schools, workplaces, and local communities. That is a message worth hearing right now as I explained in a video for American Habits.
