Is Spencer Pratt a champion of federalism?
In a new piece for the Washington Examiner, Ray Nothstine looks at Spencer Pratt’s surprising run for mayor of Los Angeles and the focus behind it: local government matters.
While national politics gets most of the attention, the policies that shape daily life are often decided much closer to home. Pratt’s candidacy and ads may be unconventional, but it points to a serious truth about civic leadership and accountability. Cities do not need more direction from Washington as much as they need capable, responsive leaders who understand the people and problems right in front of them.
From the op-ed:
Part of Pratt’s hyperlocal focus is pragmatic. He’s a registered Republican running in a deep blue city. He makes it a point to ignore Donald Trump while focusing on L.A.’s problems, emphasizing that his friends and supporters are Democrats. “Only the communists and socialists don’t support me,” claims Pratt in an interview with CBS News. “I don’t do national politics,” Pratt added. “I don’t do tribal politics. I don’t talk about other states. I’m localized.”
His local focus offers a blueprint for pragmatic, center-right candidates in big-city mayoral races.
