Socialism and localism at odds

One aspect on the rise of socialism in urban areas that I’ve been thinking a little bit about is that while socialism may be winning elections at the local level, it is fundamentally at odds with localism in the American tradition.

Localism begins with the particular character, institutions and needs of a community; socialism begins with an ideological method meant to be applied universally. This is why you have so many proposed cut-and-paste policies like rent freezes, abolishing police, “free” transportation, healthcare, and the like.

In this reel, I explain why winning locally is not the same as governing locally.
