Can AI help us restore self-government

I wrote a piece at Law & Liberty on how AI can actually help restore self-government. While trust in Washington is low, I wanted to focus on some of the work happening at the state level, where there is much more confidence in government. There are a lot of AI tools that can help decentralize power down to the more local level. But for any of it to matter, the people have to want self-government. As Jefferson reminds us, liberty ultimately rests with the people.

No tech can fix our civic culture, but used wisely, AI can help us renew it. I point out the obvious, too: computers and advanced algorithms can never replace the human person and their God-given talents.

I conclude by noting:

“AI has the potential to strengthen the foundations of our republic by helping to return more power to localities and people, and any tools that can rekindle the self-governing society should be harnessed, given all the powerful forces continually clamoring for more distant and centralized decision-making.”
